CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Authorities say a 21-year-old man found dead in a burning western New York apartment was the son of a man who was accused of killing his girlfriend in Florida in the late 1990s.

Police in Canandaigua have identified the body found at an apartment complex last weekend as Nicholas Bice. Authorities have ruled his death a homicide and believe the fire was purposely set.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports (http://on.rocne.ws/2klmVJK ) that Brice’s father, Rodney Brice, was charged in 2013 with slaying his 31-year-old girlfriend in 1998.

Her body was found in a wooded area outside Orlando, where local police said she had disappeared after the two of them argued.

The murder case fell apart after a witnesses refused to testify. Rodney Brice pleaded guilty to a lesser offense and spent two years in prison.
