Cortez Bandy, Columbus North senior football player

Bandy scored five touchdowns in Friday’s 55-7 win against Perry Meridian. He carried 21 times for 80 yards and four touchdowns and caught a 25-yard scoring pass to help lead the Bull Dogs.

His performance last week: “I feel like I performed pretty good, but I can do better. I’m going to work in practice on getting better.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I’m being more intense than I usually have been and (trying to) get everybody on the team more intense.”

Favorite drink: “Body Armor”

Favorite food: “Nachos with a lot of jalapeños”

Favorite book: “The Great Gatsby”

Favorite class: “Radio and television. I have my own talk show, ‘Talk With Tez’”

Role model: “(Penn State running back) Saquon Barkley. He’s a great role model for any running back.”

Best advice: “My mom tells me to keep my head up and don’t been too hard on myself. If I’m ever in trouble, just look to God because he’ll always be there.”

Athletics goal: “To maintain (a weight of) 205 pounds and power clean at least 315, get my squat to 430 and to bench at least 285.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I would ask the pilot to take me to a random island that’s real tropical and nice, and I would just explore the island by myself. That would be pretty fun.”

Kendal Williams, Columbus East senior volleyball player

Williams led the Olympians with 43 assists, four blocks and three aces in a five-set win against Columbus North. She came back Saturday with a combined 35 assists in losses to Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern.

Her performance last week: “I feel like we performed pretty well, especially in the North game, coming back from being down two sets.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “We lift on game days, and I eat at Tropical Smoothie. Just listen to music and getting prepared for how we’re going to perform.”

Favorite drink: “Milk”

Favorite food: “Chicken or macaroni”

Favorite book: “Anything that (strength coach Scott) Pherson writes”

Favorite class: “Weights. Other than that, I do take Nursing this year, and it’s probably one of my favorite classes because that’s what I want to do when I get older.”

Role model: “Coach (Stacie Pagnard) is probably my role model. I am in constant communication with Coach P on everything that I do. She has definitely been there, always.”

Best advice: “Never give up on yourself, because if you give up on yourself, then you’ll give up on others.”

Athletics goal: “I want to go play in college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Australia. I really want to see the Great Barrier Reef.”
