SCITUATE, R.I. — Police say a child is facing criminal charges after he brought a BB gun to his elementary school.

WLNE-TV reports the principal at Hope Elementary School in Scituate swiftly confiscated the gun Tuesday after the 5th grader told a friend about it.

School officials say they did not call parents or place the school on lockdown as there was no immediate threat.

Officials say Tuesday’s events were not connected to a middle school student who threatened to “shoot up the school” last week.

The school superintendent says the elementary school student made a poor choice and he will be seriously disciplined.
