A Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputy checking on a vehicle that had stopped with its emergency lights activated arrested the driver after smelling the odor of marijuana.
Deputy Andrew Densford saw a red Toyota truck with its emergency flashers on at 7:11 p.m.Thursday on the southbound exit to U.S. 31 from Interstate 65, deputies said.
Densford stopped to help the driver, identified as Thomas R. Fox, 39, Pinckney, Michigan, deputies said. As he did, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, deputies said.
Densford found multiple drug-related items inside the truck including a large quantity of marijuana, multiple individually-packaged marijuana cigarettes, several oral syringes, a pipe and a plastic baggie containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine, deputies said.
Fox was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said. He has since been released from the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
A juvenile who was a passenger was released to a family member at the scene, deputies said.
