Detour set to start for State Road 46 into city

Timed with the start of fall break in Columbus schools, the Indiana Department of Transportation is closing the eastbound lanes of State Road 46 into Columbus at the railroad spur on the east side of the Robert Stewart Bridge beginning this evening.

The road will close at 8 p.m. today and is expected to reopen on or before Sunday night, according to INDOT. Louisville & Indiana railroad maintenance crews are making crossing repairs to the tracks, which are a spur that travels along the East Fork White River toward Upland Columbus Pump House.

Eastbound motorists on State Road 46 will be rerouted to Interstate 65 North and then to U.S. 31 South into Columbus. Detour for drivers heading north from Jonesville or Waynesville on State Road 11 is to take County Road 450 South at Walesboro through Southern Crossing over to U.S. 31 North into Columbus.

Lowell Road is another option for people traveling from the west side to Columbus’ business district.
