ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A man has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend last year.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported that 35-year-old Robert Lee Randolph Jr. was convicted Thursday in the death of 26-year-old Tyesha Williams.
Randolph had been charged with murder in Williams’ death, but the jury returned an involuntary manslaughter verdict after six hours of deliberation in the Orangeburg County Courthouse.
Circuit Judge R. Ferrell Cothran sentenced Randolph to the maximum sentence allowed, five years in prison. Randolph was given credit for the time he’s spent in jail before the trial.
Prosecutors say Randolph shot and killed Williams April 7, 2016, as she sat in his car.
Randolph’s attorneys had argued that the death was an accident.
