USF’s Lienhoop named Preseason Player of the Year

St. Francis senior Bryce Lienhoop has been named the Crossroads League Preseason Player of the Year for men’s basketball.

The Columbus East graduate was an NAIA Third-Team All-American last season after averaging 12.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the Cougars, who went 23-11.

Evan Henry, a senior from Columbus North, was named the the Crossroads League preseason All-League third team. St. Francis was picked as the preseason favorite.

Purdue’s Jones set to return from injury

Columbus East graduate Markell Jones is planning to play Saturday for the first time since injuring his knee in Purdue’s football season opener.

East coach Bob Gaddis said Jones told him this week that he is ready to play. The Boilermakers host Minnesota at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
