Donald R. Lawless, 79, of Columbus, died Thursday October 5, 2017 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Don was a former police officer with Columbus Police Department, retiring as a Detective after 20 years of service. He was also an Investigator of Torte Claims with the Attorney General’s Office.

Don was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the church bowling team.

He had a love of cars and belonged to the Hoosier Mustang Club.

He also loved paint-by-numbers and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer R Lawless and Nellie M. (Robinson) Lawless Montgomery; brothers, Eugene and Thomas Lawless; and sister, Marianne Bennett.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Martha L. Lawless; children, Donald R. (Lynn) Lawless, II of Indianapolis and Cindy K. (Keith) Bauer of Columbus; and grandchildren, Megan (Reid) Searles of Carmel and Molly Lawless of Indianapolis. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday October 9, 2017 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Monday also at the church. Memorials in Don’s name are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or School, 719 5th St., Columbus, IN 47201; or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201.
