Barbara A. Stutsman

Barbara A. Stutsman, 70, a 42-year resident of Bartholomew County, passed into Life Eternal Wednesday, 04 October 2017, at Silver Oaks Health Campus after a several-month battle with the complication of Ischemic Stroke.

Mrs. Stutsman was born 20 May 1947 to Earl L. and Edith M. (Zollman) Miller in Scottsburg, Indiana.

A 1965 Graduate of Scottsburg High School, the then Miss Miller went on to complete her Undergraduate work in May 1969 at Ball State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. – After beginning her teaching career and marrying her husband, both in the Fall of ’69, Mrs. Stutsman continued her education and completed her Graduate work from Indiana University Bloomington in December 1971.

Mrs. Stutsman was a three-plus-decade Teacher of various Business subjects at Scottsburg High School.

Barbara’s interests and associations were many and varied. – Among her interests were animals/Animal Rights, travel, Architecture (especially that of Frank Lloyd Wright), Indiana University Basketball, NASCAR and the collecting of Barbie Dolls and Longaberger baskets. – Her affiliations included the American Baptist Churches USA, the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association, the Red Hats Society and the Metropolitan Owners’ Club of Indiana (a.k.a. Hoosier Mets).

Mrs. Stutsman was preceded in Death by her parents, her Brother-in-Law, Douglas L. Stutsman, and her husband, Gerald E. Stutsman. – Surviving Mrs. Stutsman are her Sister-in-Law, M. Evelyn Stutsman, of Lawrence County, her natural-born son, S.E. Stutsman, of Scott County, and her de facto adopted sons, Brent E. Eads, of Johnson County, and Anthony R Balzer, of Scottsburg.

Viewing for Mrs. Stutsman in Columbus will be Tuesday 10 October from 4 to 7:30 at Memorial Baptist Church, 2320 Seventh Street, with a short Memorial Service immediately following from 7:30 to 8. – Viewing in Scottsburg will be Thursday 12 October from 4 to 8 at Collins Funeral Home, 465 West McClain Avenue.

Mrs. Stutsman will be laid to rest Friday 13 October at 11 a.m. in Scottsburg Cemetery with a semi-private Graveside Service for the Family and closest friends. – A Bereavement Dinner for those in attendance will follow the graveside services at the Collins Family Center in Scottsburg.

Memorial Contributions honoring Mrs. Stutsman’s Life and Legacy may be given to either the Bartholomew County Humane Society via the Myers-Reed Chapel, or the Scottsburg Educational Loan Fund via Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg.
