COLUMBUS
Elbert J. Held, 73, of Columbus, died at 3:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mr. Held graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1962. In 1964, he graduated from the Indiana School of Mortuary Science. Elbert was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church-Columbus.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis presiding. Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Elbert was born January 14, 1944, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Ortrude Griffin Held.
He married Linda McKim Adams on June 20, 1980.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen (A.J.) Sorrels of Columbus, Kathryn (Jeff) Schuman of Fairfax, Virginia; step-son, Jeff Adams of Columbus; grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Sorrels, Benjamin, Miranda and Emily Schuman; step-grandchildren, Samuel and Serra Adams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, on January 12, 2007.
