MILTON, Del. — Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that left a Milton man dead and his wife critically injured.

Police on Monday identified the man killed Thursday night as 61-year-old John Pinto III.

Trooper went to Pinto’s home after neighbors called 911 to report a domestic fight. Officers began negotiating with Pinto, who they say had a gun and was threatening to harm his wife.

As troopers were talking with him, gunshots were heard inside the home. Pinto’s wife then called 911 saying both she and her husband had been shot.

An autopsy found that Pinto suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

His wife, who was shot in the lower torso, remains in critical condition.
