Roy Eugene Boggs, 69, of Columbus, passed away quietly at 10:22 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital awaiting the resurrection.

Roy was born October 14, 1947, in Madison, Indiana, the son of Francis E. and Pearl Stephens Boggs.

Roy enjoyed living in the Columbus area for nearly 40 years. He participated in family and community events through Developmental Services Inc. He was a generous and happy person up to the last few days of his life.

Roy had attended the First Church of the Nazarene and the First Assembly of God Church on Tenth Street.

A sports enthusiast, Roy had participated in the Special Olympics receiving numerous medals. He enjoyed playing corn hole, pitching horseshoes, bowling, going to wrestling matches, and fishing.

Roy always liked listening to country music.

Roy is survived by three brothers, Larry Boggs of Columbus, David (Patti) Boggs of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Shelley (Diana) Boggs of Lafayette, Tennessee; two sisters, Connie Devers of Columbus and JoAnn Shappard of Vincennes, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Thomas and Willard Rhinehart and Danny Boggs.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Tim Woodring officiating.

Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Rush Branch Cemetery in Jennings County.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
