Breaking out fun times

It’s fall break in Bartholomew County schools, but there still are things that a kid wants to do. The kidcommons children’s museum in downtown Columbus has a week’s worth of activities lined up.

It begins with Messy Monday, touted as sensory fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. The kidscommons staff promised to clean up the mess.

Toward the end of the week is Fireman’s Cheer Fund Day Friday. Visitors are invited to bring in a new toy for the local Firemen’s Cheer Fund for half-price admission, $3.50/person. The discount is good for up to four people for each new toy donated. Firefighters will greet families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

From Monday through Friday, kids are invited to drop off a Halloween costume or accessories, then return during free-admission Saturday for a free, new-to-you, gently used costume. Donations are not required for youngsters to come and select a costume Saturday.

Saturday’s free museum admission is sponsored by American Family Insurance. One adult is recommended for every five children.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the facility, 309 Washington St.
