GREENSBURG

Paul F. Herbert, 92, Millhousen, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his residence.

Born, December 26, 1924 in Greensburg, he was the son of Henry G. and Elizabeth M. (Young) Herbert.

Paul served in World War II with the U.S. Army 1st Division, 2nd Battalion aid station in France, Belgium and Germany. He was awarded the following medals: Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Theatre Service Medal. He also received the Diplome Republic of France, Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal, awarded by the President of the French Republic.

Paul was a farmer and he loved raising his livestock. He worked at Stants in Connersville, then Cummins Engine in Columbus for 19 years, and finally six years at the Decatur County Highway Department as supervisor.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge, and the American Legion.

He loved western movies, dancing and gardening.

He was married first to Patricia Kanouse on April 12, 1947 and she preceded him in death on June 18, 1966.

He then married Marjorie Wenning on June 10, 1967, and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Gary (Elaine) Herbert, Columbus, Rick (Barb) Herbert, Greensburg; one daughter, Ann (Jim) Kunz, Greensburg; three brothers, Dennis Herbert, Westport, Lotus Herbert, Greensburg, Robert Herbert, Greensburg; eight grandchildren, Sonja Moscrip, Jerry Herbert, Jeff Herbert, Tricia Kappes, Joe Herbert, Craig Herbert, Becky Tebbe, Matt Kunz; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; brothers, Harry Herbert, Clarence Herbert; sisters, Dorothy Herbert, Edna Minary.

Family and friends will gather at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home for a rosary service. Visitation will follow from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. The family will also receive friends from 9 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Geis officiating.

Interment with full military rites will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
