PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Former state Rep. Kurt Heise is running for a Detroit-area congressional seat that is opening due to the planned retirement of second-term Republican Rep. Dave Trott.
Heise, the Plymouth Township supervisor, made his announcement Wednesday. He is the fourth Republican to enter the race for the Republican-leaning seat in Oakland and Wayne counties.
Heise says Washington has become a “swamp of greed and gridlock that hinders the American Dream,” and he cannot “sit on the sidelines and watch this continue.”
Heise joins businesswoman Lena Epstein, state Rep. Klint Kesto and Rocky Raczkowski — an Army veteran and former state lawmaker — in the Republican field.
Democratic candidates include Dan Haberman, Haley Stevens and Fayrouz Saad.
