GATESVILLE, Texas — Authorities in Central Texas say a 46-year-old woman being held at a county jail has died following a struggle with guards who were trying to restrain her.

Coryell County officials confirmed to KWTX-TV on Wednesday that Kelli Leanne Page died after guards went to her cell for what they described as “jail violations.”

Authorities say Page did not comply with orders during the confrontation Sunday and jailers attempted to forcibly restrain her.

They noticed after handcuffs were placed on her that Page had become unresponsive. Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. An autopsy has been ordered.

A guard was injured in the struggle and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Texas Rangers are investigating the death.
