Bright ideas

People driving along Interstate 65 just south of the Walesboro-Ogilville interchange will notice a 3,900-panel solar array west of the highway. The solar farm was developed by Hoosier Energy, a power generation and transmission cooperative made up of 18 electrical distribution co-ops including Bartholomew County REMC in southern Indiana.

Hoosier Energy is constructing 10 such facilities, with the final one to be located off Interstate 74 near Greensburg. All are in high-visibility areas to increase awareness of the solar-heating sources. This push launches a new chapter in energy production for the region.

A dedication and open house for the Bartholomew County solar array was conducted Sept. 21.
