Columbus Police swear in 2 new officers

Two new officers have joined the Columbus Police Department.

Officer Trenton Browning, 24, is a Bartholomew County native and graduated from Edinburgh High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife science with a minor in military science and leadership from Purdue University. He serves as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard.

Officer Reid Thayer, 23, of Hope, is a Hauser High School graduate. He received a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security and Public Safety from Vincennes University, where he played baseball and was a team captain during the 2013-14 season.

Browning and Thayer were sworn in Tuesday during the Columbus Board of Works meeting.

Both officers will receive training at the Columbus Police Department before they begin training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy later this month.
