Mildred Irene Koenig, 96, of Columbus died on October 12, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born on February 24, 1921 to Elmer and Caroline Wilsman in Evansville.

She graduated from Evansville’s Reitz High School in 1939 and married Carl F. Koenig on March 25, 1945. They were married for 63 years.

Mildred had been active member of Asbury United Methodist Church having served as secretary, financial secretary, treasurer and ‘Champs’ volunteer. She also held several offices as a member of the United Methodist Women’s Association and most recently was a member of the church’s DMA (Don’t Mention Age) group.

Mildred was also a former member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.

She worked at Hamilton Cosco for 16 years before retiring in 1993.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and sisters, Helen Childress, Beatrice Westhydeman and Wilhelmina Denhardt.

Surviving are her brother, Paul Wilsman of Evansville; her daughters; Paula I. Wight (John) of Vancouver, Washington, Carla Ashworth (Ed) of Delaware, Ohio and Jana Reed (Olin) of Columbus, grandchildren, Holly Cook (Alan), Heidi Hendricks (Taki Masuko), Matthew Hendricks and Carrie Reed; great-grandchildren, Alana Cook, Kennedy Reed and Liberty Reed. In addition to her immediate and extended family, Regina Janeway, MaryAnn Jordan and her many other special friends and neighbors made Mildred’s life complete.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Paul Johnson officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Asbury United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
