A local man who ran from police after a traffic stop was tased and arrested on several drug-related charges and an Indiana parole warrant.
Shortly before midnight on Monday, a Columbus police officer saw a car traveling near 12th Street and Sycamore Drive with a license plate that belonged to another vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
After stopping the car, a back seat occupant, identified as Melvin G. Foree, 35, Columbus, left the vehicle and began walking away on the sidewalk, Harris said.
The officer ordered Foree to stop but Foree refused, and began running between houses nearby. The officer used a taser to stop and arrest Foree, Harris said.
When officers searched the vehicle Foree was in, they found a syringe containing methamphetamine where Foree had been sitting, Harris said.
Foree was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and then to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug injection device, resisting law enforcement and the parole warrant.
