North Vernon man arrested on drug charges

NORTH VERNON — North Vernon police arrested a local man on drug-related charges after a traffic stop.

Sgt. Andrew Richmond saw a black Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jarod H. Schwacke, 24, North Vernon, make a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle. K-9 Heros alerted to an odor of narcotics coming from the Jeep, North Vernon police said.

When searching the vehicle, officers found five grams of methamphetamine in five separate bags, digital scales, extra bags, a methamphetamine smoking pipe and snorting tube and other paraphernalia, police said.

Schwacke was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, officers said.

He is being held in the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $10,055 bond, jail officials said.
