BROCKTON, Mass. — A Brockton man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting another man outside a house party in the city in 2015.

The Enterprise reports that 28-year-old Luis Fonseca was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. He was convicted of second-degree murder in the July 2015 death of Gilson Monteiro.

Investigators say Monteiro was fatally wounded when a large brawl broke out at the early morning party. Responding officers found one man suffering from a gunshot wound to leg and were told that two others, including Monteiro, had already been taken to the hospital.

Police say witness testimony and surveillance video identified Fonseca as Monteiro’s shooter.
