Jenny’s Picks – October 19

Do you like puppets, Halloween and getting a slight scare? Check out the Melchior Marionette Theatre’s “Slightly Haunted Puppet Theatre” at 1 and 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday and Oct. 27 to 29. The theater is on the west side of South Van Buren Street, Nashville. Information: 800-849-4853.

I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in years, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy seeing other people’s clever costumes. That’s why I’m heading to the Halloween Costume Contest, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Donner Center, 729 22nd St. It’s a free event for those 12 and younger. Numbers for judging will be available at 1:30 p.m. The contest for ages up to 5 will start at 2 p.m. followed by the contest for ages 6 to 12. First- through third-place prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories in each age group. All participants receive a ribbon and a treat bag. Halloween crafts will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Columbus Parks & Recreation Department. Information: 812-376-2680.
