Community event will benefit playground effort

Columbus Signature Academy Lincoln Campus plans to host a fundraiser Sunday afternoon at the school for a playground project.

The community event — from noon to 2 p.m. at the school, 750 Fifth St. — will feature free activities plus a concession stand and silent auction to raise funds. Organizers are trying to hit a $32,000 goal so the school can be awarded a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

A crowdfunding campaign, which will run until Nov. 3, has raised nearly $17,000. Money raised through the event will go toward the school’s Linden Project, which is modeled off an original concept for a playground at CSA-Lincoln in 1966 that never materialized.

Construction on the playground, which will include outdoor classrooms, sculptural benches and a butterfly garden, will begin in the spring and is expected to be completed by the 2018-19 school year.
