The Columbus East Olympian Spirit marching band qualified for today’s Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic Class finals after finishing sixth during preliminary competition Oct. 7 in Whiteland, where it earned a gold rating with distinction in effect while competing in the Scholastic A division. The East band, which also was awarded a third place in music, will advance to the ISSMA Scholastic Class finals at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, where it is scheduled to perform at 8:32 p.m. today. A week from today, the Sound of North marching band from Columbus North will compete in the Indiana State Music Association open class semistate competition. The Sound of North will play at 5:46 p.m. at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, one of four open-class competition sites. North earned that spot by placing in fourth of 13 bands in regional competition Oct. 14 at Center Grove High School.
