2-vehicle crash kills 2 Scipio children

Staff Reports

Two children have died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle Jennings County accident.

Two backseat passengers in a vehicle driven by Mary F. Bailey, 36, of Columbus — sisters Kaylee Creamer, 4, and Allison Creamer, 22 months, both of Scipio — suffered fatal injuries from the crash, Indiana State Police said. Bailey is the children’s aunt, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the State Police Versailles post.

The 1:10 p.m. Friday accident occurred at State Road 7 and County Road 900 North, about two miles north of Scipio in northern Jennings County, Wheeles said.

Bailey’s gold 2004 Buick Century passenger vehicle was slowed in the roadway to turn west on County Road 900 North when her vehicle was struck from behind by a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado truck, pulling a horse trailer, driven by Nicholas A. Fischvogt, 24, of North Vernon, Wheeles said.

The force of the collision pushed Bailey’s vehicle off the west side of the road before coming to a stop, Wheeles said. After the collision, Fischvogt’s vehicle continued north before coming to a stop in the roadway, he said.

Bailey suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, Wheeles said. She was listed in fair condition Saturday afternoon, St. Vincent spokesman Gene Ford said.

Kaylee Creamer was pronounced dead at the scene, Wheeles said. Allison Creamer was transported to St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital in North Vernon, where she was later pronounced dead by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office, he said.

The names of the girls’ parents have not been released.

A passenger in Fischvogt’s vehicle, his aunt, Nancy Palmer, 63, of Scipio, suffered serious injuries in the crash, Wheeles said. She was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital before being transported to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for treatment of her injuries, he said. She was listed in stable and good condition Saturday afternoon, IU Health spokesman Jason Fechner said.

Fischvogt was not injured, Wheeles said.

The investigation is ongoing and toxicology results are pending on both drivers, Wheeles said.

Wheeles was assisted by other troopers from the Indiana State Police Versailles Post, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Scipio-Geneva Fire Department, Jennings County EMS, Stat Flight Medical Helicopter, the Jennings County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
