Elizabethtown driver arrested on charge of possession of methamphetamine

Columbus police arrested an Elizabethtown man on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop for speeding.

The traffic stop happened at about 6 p.m. Saturday near 13th Street and Central Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Nicholas J. Johnson, 39, Elizabethtown, who was arrested after a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department canine alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle and officers about 17 grams of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat, Harris said.

Johnson was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, Harris said.
