DUBUQUE, Iowa — Authorities say two people were sent to a hospital after a fire filled a Dubuque basement with smoke.

Firetrucks were dispatched to the home a little before 12:05 a.m. Sunday. Authorities say three people there were evacuated, along with three pets. The two people hospitalized had reported minor smoke inhalation.

A Dubuque Fire Department news release says the residents had been working on the building furnace an hour before the fire broke out.
