MINNEAPOLIS — The first significant snowfall of the season is arriving in Minnesota.

The National Weather Service posted a winter storm warning for northern Minnesota where 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate by Friday. Up to 8 inches of snow is in the forecast for Koochiching County. Wind gusts of up to 45 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow and make travel more difficult.

The Twin Cities metro area is expected to see 1 to 3 inches of accumulation by Friday.
