MINOT, N.D. — Contractors are putting the final touches on Ward County’s $38 million jail expansion, with approvals from building inspectors expected early next month.

The project manager says it will be completed this fall with the exception of a small bit of landscaping to be done next spring. Remodeling of the existing jail also should be completed by spring.

The Minot Daily News reports that Adolphson and Peterson Construction hopes to obtain a certificate of occupancy as early as Nov. 1. Sheriff Bob Barnard says the new facility won’t be taking inmates until about mid-December, after staff training is complete.

The project will increase jail capacity from 104 beds to 300 beds.
