Columbus Christian to play in Division II tournament

DAYTON, Tennessee — The Columbus Christian volleyball team swept two opponents, were swept by three and split sets with one team in pool play over the past two days in the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament.

On Wednesday, the Crusaders beat Legacy Christian Academy (Stephens City, Virginia) 25-20, 25-17; lost to The Rock (last year’s Division I champs from Gainesville, Florida) 25-6, 25-5 and beat Fellowship Christian Academy (Jacksonville, North Carolina) 25-20, 25-18.

Thursday, Columbus Christian fell to Jelly’s (Venice, Florida) 25-17, 25-22 and Veritas Christian (Fletcher, North Carolina) 25-11, 25-20 and split sets with Evangel Christian (Alabaster, Alabama) 19-25, 25-16.

Mayah Schundelmeier pounded 28 kills and eight blocks, and Sabrina Herron had 43 assists, 23 digs in the six matches to lead the Crusaders (18-9-1). Savannah Herron served 25 aces to go along with 18 kills and 25 digs.

Michaela Schundelmeier added six kills and two blocks, Sabrina Herron had nine kills and nine aces and Mayah Schundelmeier served five aces and Lauren Hunnicutt pounded six kills. Hannah Stair notched 12 digs, while Morgan Hunnicutt added six digs and Grace Lorimor had five digs.

Columbus Christian, which won the Division III title last season, will compete in the Division II Tournament today.
