Police investigate theft of North band members money, debit cards and purses

Columbus police and a school resource officer are continuing an investigation into the theft of money, debit cards, purses and other personal property from band students practicing at Columbus North High School.

Several students were in the North building practicing in the band area at about noon Oct. 21 when they left the building to go to Northside Middle School for a meal, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

A exterior door leading to the practice area was left open by someone and when students returned at about 2:30 p.m., the personal property belonging to seven students had been stolen, Harris said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Columbus Police Department at 812-376-2600. Information may be left anonymously.
