Volleyball club hosting tryouts, training sessions

The East Columbus Volleyball Club will conduct open tryouts for girls in the 15- to 16-year-old age group from 6 to 8 p.m. today from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at Ceraland.

The tryout fee is $35. Teams will be announced within three days of the final session.

East Columbus Volleyball Club also is hosting open fall training sessions Tuesdays through Nov. 21 at Ceraland. Grades 4 to 6 are from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., and Grades 7 and 8 are from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per session.

East golf hosting Chili-Dip tournament fundraiser

The Columbus East boys and girls golf teams will host the 2017 Fall Chili-Dip Golf Tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday at Otter Creek Golf Course.

Cost is $50 per person and includes greens fees, cart, chili and other goodies, with proceeds benefiting the East golf teams.

Hamilton Center hosting Try Hockey For Free clinic

Columbus Youth Hockey and Columbus Parks and Recreation are inviting boys and girls ages 4 to 9 to a Try Hockey For Free clinic at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton Community Center and Ice Arena.

USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, is designed to provide youth hockey associations with a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport. Wrestling group plans cheer fund toy drive

Hoosier Pro Wrestling will host its 19-year Anniversary Show and Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund Toy Drive at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Cost is $13 for adults and free for kids 4 and under.

Harlem Wizards to play local team in Columbus

The Harlem Wizards basketball team will play the Bartholomew County School Foundation Stars, a team of teachers, principals, administrators and community members, at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at Columbus North High School.

Former Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. superintendent Jim Roberts will be the coaches. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Volleyball club prepares to conduct tryouts at Hauser

Tryouts for HAVOC club volleyball will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Hauser main gym and 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Hauser fieldhouse for grades 5 to 8; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the main gym and 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 in the fieldhouse for grades 9 to 12.

HAVOC also will conduct a winter camp for students in kindergarten through Grade 4 from Jan. 3 to Feb. 28. Cost is $45 and includes a camp shirt and tournament.

Love Chapel will benefit from 5K on Turkey Day

The 5K on Turkey Day will feature 5K and 10K races at 8 a.m. Nov. 23 beginning and ending at the Armory, 2160 Arnold St., Columbus.

Columbus North seniors Madelyn Sanders and Claire Malone are putting on this year’s fourth annual event for their senior project. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K, plus a five-can minimum donation, with proceeds benefiting the Love Chapel.
