Robert Lee Strahl, 80, of Columbus, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at his residence.

Bob was born May 19, 1937, in Columbus, IN, the son of Lawrence “Jack” and Margaret Littiken Strahl. On October 15, 1988, he married Judith Ann Baxter.

Mr. Strahl was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 29 years. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1992. Robert was a 4-H Leader in the 70’s and 80’s. He took pride in raising rabbits and goats along with farming. Bob would help anyone he met. Square dancing, riding horses, fishing, camping and tending to a large garden were among his favorite things to do. Above all, Bob cherished his family.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Judy; children, Michael Strahl of St. Meinrad, Tony (Kelly) Strahl, Darrell Robert Strahl, both of Columbus, Nancy (Leon) Swift of Edinburgh, Jill (Scott) Renner of Seymour; grandchildren, Brittany Percival, Caleb Strahl, Tyler Strahl, Travis Swift, Jacob Strahl, Rebecca Garrison, Whitney Herring, Josh Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Rachel Swift, Mia Strahl, Mallory Renner, Gage Renner, Amiee Rohlfing; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Esther (Bob) Settle of Columbus, Alice (Harrel) Frodge of Westport, Nellie Hill of Columbus; sister-in-law, Sandy Strahl of Winchester, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Strahl; sisters, Mary Lovins, Lucy (Gordon) Huckaby, Minnie Strahl; and granddaughter, Cady Lynn Garrison.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Bakes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home-Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Family and friends may call Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home Monday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department or the Bartholomew County 4-H.
