FRESNO, Calif. — A civil rights lawsuit involving a police shooting against the city of Fresno in recent months has been dismissed, making it the third unsuccessful effort of its kind in recent months.
The Fresno Bee reports the lawsuit filed by the mother of Joseph Ma, who was shot by police after running away from an officer in February 2014, was dismissed before the trial could begin last week.
Bruce Praet, who served as the lawyer for Lewis and police, says Ma’s mother’s attorney, Stanley Ma, chose to dismiss the lawsuit.
It’s unclear why they decided to dismiss the lawsuit.
Ma’s mother, Tina, and Stanley Ma couldn’t be reached for comment.
Another federal civil rights case involving a man shot by police was dismissed in July after his family failed to comply with a court order.
