DUANESBURG, N.Y. — State police say a bald eagle has died after crashing into the windshield of a school bus on a central New York highway.

The Schoharie (skoh-HAYR’-ee) Central School District bus was heading west on Interstate 88 in Duanesburg shortly after 11 a.m. Monday when the bird flew into its path.

Neither the bus driver nor any students on the bus were injured, but the bald eagle was found dead alongside the highway. An official from the state Department of Environmental Conservation removed it.

The students were transferred to a different bus and the damaged vehicle was towed away.
