SHELBYVILLE
Bruce Allen Conner, 69, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born on July 18, 1948 in Columbus, to the late Robert B. Conner and Cynthia Conner Miller.
Bruce is survived by his sisters, Brenda (Monty Staples) Conner of Georgetown, Roberta (James) Wolpert of Hope, and Beth Canter of Indianapolis; nephews, Nathan Staples, Jacob Canter and Keith Wolpert, nieces, Rose Staples (Tim) Fountaine, Gwen (Travis) Fitzpatrick and Dana Canter; and great-nieces and nephew.
Bruce graduated from Hauser High School in 1966, attended IBM technical training, then in 1968 enlisted in the U.S. Army, specializing in the Army Security Agency, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He attended Indiana University and graduated from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California with a Bachelor of Arts in photography.
As an advertising photographer, Bruce worked at Fotographics of Indianapolis, where he became lead photographer. He went on to form a business partnership, Conner-Nichols Photography, and later had his own studio, Bruce Conner Photography.
Bruce also taught photography for several semesters at IUPUI.
Bruce enjoyed biking, restoring his vintage MGB car, fly-fishing, and writing short stories and articles.
He was a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge, the VFW, the DAV and the American Legion.
Bruce was married and divorced twice, but his family and close friends gave him loving support as his health failed.
His creative, intellectual mind, and sense of humor will be sadly missed until the time we meet again.
Graveside services will be held at Hope Moravian Cemetery on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Hope. Military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
