ATLANTA — Police say a man was fatally shot outside a motel in metro Atlanta and they are searching for the gunman.

DeKalb County police Lt. Shane Stanfield tells news outlets officers responded to the shooting on Sunday shortly before 8 p.m. A man and a woman were exiting a vehicle in a parking lot between a Motel 6 and Super 8 near Chamblee when someone they knew confronted the man and started shooting.

Stanfield says police believe the shooter drove away from the scene. The woman was not injured.

Police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell says a suspect is not in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released. Further details haven’t been released.
