James W. Glanton

James W. Glanton, 87, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his residence.

He was born September 6, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the youngest of seven children born to Robert and Mary (Dean) Glanton.

He married Geneva Fearin on November 14, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio.

He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva; and four children, Patricia Mink (Thomas), retired art teacher, Indianapolis, Dennis (deceased), (fiance Danette Kaster), Julie Hiatt (Jeff) Chino Valley, Arizona, and Joseph (Christy Doan) Midlothian, Texas; six grandchildren, Kelly Hickman Taylor, Danielle Hiatt Schnake (Charles) and Audrey Hiatt Betkey (Clint) San Francisco, California, Madelyn, Kailyn, and Tyler Glanton of Midlothian, Texas, and Sarah Mink (Stan Muller); one great-grandson, Keegan Taylor.

Mr. Glanton served active duty with the U.S. Navy, 1949-1953.

He met his future wife on a moonlight cruise on the Potomac River in Wash. D.C. They were going to celebrate 64 years together.

In 1953, he enrolled in University of Dayton on the G.I. Bill, attending night school. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He worked at Moler’s Belmont Dairy (Milkman), G.M. Frigidaire, G.M. Aeroproducts, Chrysler Airtemp (Engr. Dept), Univ. of Dayton Research Institute.

In 1959, he moved his family to Indianapolis to go into business with his brother, John at the J.B. Glanton Co., Inc. (wholesale and retail sales and service of water systems). In 1974, he opened Glanton Pump & Supply Co. in Shelbyville.

He was a master plumber, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

He was an active member in the Gideons International since 1965 as well as a member of Hope’s Point (Baptist) Church in Shelbyville.

Visitation is Friday, November 10, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. and the funeral is Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. Both services will be at Hope’s Point Church, 1703 S. Miller Ave., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Burial following ceremony at Forest Hill Cemetery, in Shelbyville.
