Traffic stop leads to arrest

A Nineveh man was arrested on drug-related charges after a traffic stop near U.S. 31 and Central Avenue.

Columbus Police Department Officer Brandon Decker saw a vehicle driven by Kyle L. Stewart, 32, Nineveh, at 11:40 p.m. Monday driving without taillights, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Decker stopped the vehicle and smelled the odor of narcotics inside it while speaking to the vehicle’s three occupants, Harris said.

Officers found methamphetamine near the vehicle’s center console, Harris said.

Stewart was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance, Harris said. The other two occupants were later released, Harris said.

Stewart is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $57,500 bond, jail officials said.
