Kiwanis club earns district recognition

The Evening Kiwanis Club of Columbus received a new member bonus from the Indiana District of Columbus for adding two, John Robinson of Jackson County Bank and Charlotte Hughes.

At a recent meeting, club members were informed of the new Indiana DAR salute to the state flag. The salute was written by Gretchen Aggertt Weber of Danville and was the winning entry in last year’s “Salute Indiana!” contest sponsored by INDAR to commemorate the state’s bicentennial. It reads: “O, blue and gold, with torch of old, Enlighten our path with hope. Hoosiers, we look up to thee And pledge our all to liberty.”

Kiwanis Club of Columbus is the oldest Kiwanis club in Bartholomew County and was chartered on Nov. 22, 1920. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. In Columbus, the Kiwanis Club of Columbus is active providing interest-free loans and grants to high school seniors and support of many youth oriented activities.

Columbus Evening Kiwanis Club meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening in the meeting room of the Garage Pub & Grill. Prospective members are always welcome. For weekly speaker topics, go online at Columbus EveningKiwanis.org.
