NEW YORK — Police have released the identity of a 67-year-old man who was fatally shot by police at a Bronx homeless shelter after authorities say he stabbed two female security guards who worked there.

Police say Cornell Lockhart, who lived at the shelter, was shot by officers Monday night when he ignored repeated orders to drop a knife and stepped toward them.

Lockhart was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say video surveillance shows Lockhart stabbing the two guards before the officers arrive on the scene. Both women were hospitalized in serious condition.
