Bloomington couple arrested after stabbing incident

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a Bloomington couple after a reported stabbing.

Deputy Cory Lehman was sent to the 6000 block of East State Street in Columbus at 6 p.m. Monday where he saw Elijuah B. Nail, 40, Bloomington, walking toward the police car, deputies said.

Nail told Lehman that he had been stabbed after he and his girlfriend, identified as Kristen A. Wise, 26, also of Bloomington got into an argument, deputies said. The argument became physical and Nail said Wise stabbed him in his lower back side of his body, deputies said.

After receiving information that Wise had parked her recreational vehicle at the Circle K on south U.S. 31, Indiana State Police Trooper Matthew Powell contacted Wise, who also had visible injuries, police said.

Wise told officers that Nail had placed his hands over her face and neck causing her to be unable to breathe, deputies said. When this occurred, she took out a pocket knife and stabbed him, deputies said.

A search warrant was obtained for a recreational vehicle where the incident was believed to have taken place, and a pocket knife,  drugs and drug-related items were found, deputies said.

Wise was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of a controlled substance and has since been released from the Bartholomew County Jail, deputies said.

Nail was arrested on preliminary charges of strangulation, domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime, deputies said. He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $17,500 bond, jail officials said.
