RICHMOND, Ky. — Reserves DeAndre Dishman and Dedric Boyd scored 18 points apiece and Eastern Kentucky dominated the second half to beat Division II Kentucky State 97-66 on Thursday night.
The Thorobreds jumped out to a 7-0 lead and didn’t trail in the first half until A.J. Youngman buried a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to give Eastern Kentucky a 35-34 lead. Kevin Hayes answered with a tip-in at the buzzer and Kentucky State had a one-point lead at halftime.
The second half was a different story. Dishman scored five straight points early to erase a two-point deficit and the Colonels (2-1) never trailed again.
Nick Mayo had 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots and Youngman scored 14 for Eastern Kentucky, which shot 49.3 percent (33 of 67) from the field and 55.6 percent (10 of 18) from 3-point range.
Ray Croon topped the Thorobreds with 21 points, while Reggie Breeden scored 13. Kentucky State was outscored 62-30 in the second half and finished with 16 turnovers.
