ASPEN, Colo. — A Colorado sheriff has recovered a stolen bike that was gifted to his wife by former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong.
The Aspen Times reports the bike, which was stolen from Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo’s front porch in August, was found chained to a tree in Aspen.
Joe DiSalvo said Wednesday that he had already written it off as gone.
Pryce Hadley, a ranger with the Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Program, says he spotted the bike near an area sometimes used as a homeless camp.
The bike was still in perfect condition.
Armstrong had given Marcy DiSalvo a refurbished bike that he had received for a 2005 Tour of Hope ride from San Diego to Washington, D.C.
Joe DiSalvo estimated the bike is worth between $5,000 and $10,000.
