COLUMBUS
James E. Plummer, 91, of Columbus, passed from this life at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Plummer was born March 31, 1926, in Columbus, the son of Walter and Eunice E. Lawver Plummer.
He married Geneva Ross October 11, 1946; she preceded him in death April 6, 1989. He later married Kathryn Marie Miller May 26, 1997; she preceded him in death September 24, 2009.
Mr. Plummer was a U.S. Navy veteran where he was a radio operator and gunner during World War II.
He was a tool designer at Esterline Angus in Speedway retiring in 1992.
He owned Plummer’s Market in Waymansville for 25 years and he had been a Wick Home builder.
For over 50 years, Mr. Plummer was a member of White Creek United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis and the Murat Shrine.
Mr. Plummer was a part-time farmer and enjoyed carpentry work and watching westerns.
He had a passion for spending time with his family and he cherished his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include his children, Steve (Trish) Plummer of Columbus, Jeanine (Rick) Peterson of Columbus, and Cheryl Ann Tangman of Columbus; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Plummer was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; brothers, Walter, Don, and Billy Plummer; sisters, Jean Stoughton and Joan Fahl; and his son-in-law, Michael J. Tangman.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at White Creek United Methodist Church with Dr. Scott Murphy officiating.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Burial will be at the church cemetery with full military rites presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to White Creek United Methodist Church.
