Local families are recognized at Family Week event

Four local families who have overcome adversity — the Humes, McCauley, Poueriet and Lancaster families — will be recognized during National Family Week activities in Columbus.

The annual gathering recognizes families that work together, play together and overcome obstacles or adversities with grace and dignity, said Judy Lifferth of Columbus, who has organized the recognition reception for the past 28 years.

The year’s event will be from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Friday in the chapel of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 Fifth St.

St. Peter’s Pastor Patrick Galligar will conduct the recognition ceremony. Dignitaries will include State Sen. Greg Walker, R-Columbus, and Mary Ferdon, executive director of administration and community development for the city of Columbus.

Music will be provided by the Joyful Noise choir, made up of fourth- and fifth-grade students from St. Peter’s School, bagpipe musician Mike Kutsko and the Lancaster triplets, William, Saylor and Wyatt.
