SAN DIEGO — A woman who shot her husband and teenage daughter, then slept next to the girl’s body for three days, has been sentenced to 80 years to life in prison.

Regina Johnson was sentenced Friday in San Diego for the 2012 deaths of Reuben Johnson and 14-year-old Aaliyah Johnson.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Johnson testified her husband shot their daughter during an argument at their San Carlos home and she then shot him.

She spent two years in a state mental hospital before being held competent to stand trial. She was convicted last month of second-degree murder.

At her sentencing, Johnson tearfully read an open letter to her dead daughter, saying she loved her and would never hurt her.
