OAKLAND, Calif. — Police in Oakland say a man and woman have been hospitalized with severe bite wounds after they were attacked by two dogs.

Investigators say the woman’s pet dog was also mauled during the attack Friday morning, and later died.

The East Bay Times reports the 53-year-old woman and the 71-year-old man suffered puncture wounds, including to their faces and heads. They were in stable condition Friday afternoon.

All three dogs involved were pit bulls. Both the dead pit bull and the attacking dogs were taken by animal control officers to the city shelter.
