LOS ANGELES — Fire officials say a 46-year-old man died while trying to save two dogs from a burning recreational vehicle in Los Angeles.

Fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says the victim, who was not identified, lived in the RV with his wife and their two dogs. The couple was not inside when the blaze started Monday, but the animals were.

The Los Angeles Times reports the cause is under investigation.
